About Us Paula J. Yankauskas, V.M.D. , founded Lamoille Valley Veterinary Services (L.V.V.S.) in 1985. We are one of a select few veterinary hospitals in North America who belong to the American Animal Hospital Association. L.V.V.S. , now in its 25th year, is a round-the-clock staffed hospital facility offering Wellness Care, General Surgery, Dentistry, Ultrasound, Radiographs, Breeding Consultation, House Calls and 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care services. We also provide boarding, grooming, pet food and supplies on site. We look forward to getting to know you and your pets.
While here, you can meet our doctors, learn more about the hospital and browse through our reference encyclopedia of animal healthcare topics, ranging from behavior and preventive care to common and not-so-common diseases. We welcome your comments and suggestions, so let us know what you think of our Web site during your next visit to our clinic.

February is Pet Dental Health Month!
Please call and schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians for an oral exam to determine the condition of your pets teeth and determine if an Oral ATP (dental cleaning while under anesthesia) is recommended.
HOW TO BRUSH YOUR PETS TEETH - At Home Care Brushing a pet’s teeth is no easy feat, we therefore recommend getting your pet used to the routine from an early age.
-
Pick an appropriate toothbrush (pet specific)
-
Select the appropriate tooth paste (pet speciefic)
-
Get the toothbrush and toothpaste into the mouth
-
Begin brushing
Recommendations on brushing:
* Make tooth brushing a pleasant experience * Choose an area of the house that is comfortable for you and your dog or cat * Start by lifting the lip and gently rubbing the teeth with your fingers * Once your dog or cat is used to this, then begin by placing the toothbrush, with the mouth closed in between the lips and the outside surfaces of the teeth. * A circular motion on the surfaces of the teeth is best, however, it is important to remember that any mechanical brushing is better than none, and each dog or cat will be different. * Tooth brushing is a process that is best started at an early age. Accept the fact, that home dental care is a process of building confidence and trust with you and your dog or cat.
It is important to remember to reward the dog or cat after the tooth brushing with a treat: such as taking him for a walk, giving him a toy or a cuddle.
Warning: DO NOT allow young children to attempt to brush your pet’s teeth or put their fingers into pets mouth.

Distemper
Overview
Canine distemper is a highly contagious disease caused by canine distemper virus (CDV). It may affect the respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurologic systems and is generally transmitted through contact with mucous and watery secretions discharged from the eyes and noses of infected dogs. However, it can also be transmitted by contact with urine and other bodily fluids, so your dog may become infected without coming into contact with an infected dog.
